Merry Christmas from the Elliott Family!

Oh, Christmas Tree, Oh, Christmas Tree

I love Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree! It was my favorite as a kid and I still love reading it every year. It got me thinking about Christmas trees. Here are some resources for learning more with trees this season.

Read the book and have students do a little geometry at the same time. Take a piece of paper and make sure it is a square. Have students fold the square into a triangle. Cut along the fold. Now you have 2 triangles. As you read the story have the students fold their triangle in half and cut. They continue the process the whole book for each of the key events. Then when they finish they will have their own tree. They can record the events or decorate! A BIG THANKS to the lovely teachers in Indiana and Ohio who shared this idea with me. I came right home and gave it a try. It worked!

Real Trees 4 Kids: Learn all about the life cycle of growing trees! They even have lesson plans and reproducibles for each grade level.

Applesauce Cinnamon Ornaments: Making these ornaments have been part of my classroom experience for years. Not only do the kids love them, your classroom smells heavenly!

Mmm Good Game!

I came across this new game based on Campbell soup's Alphabet soup. It is an anagram/crossword puzzle game. I can also see beginning readers using it to roll the dice and spell words. Amazon.com has the game and the game creator TDC also offers it. Mmmmm Good Learning!

Get the Game on Amazon for less than $20.

Picture Books... YES!

I LOVE Books! I still get so excited when I find a new book to share with my family or students. Here are some I am just pumped about right now!
I love my white shoes! See video below.
A new twist on an old favorite.

Love this one! (The humor is not only throughout the book, but that final page, but be aware they do use the term associated with a donkey. Just giving you the heads up. )

Did the HAPPY DANCE when I saw this was out in picture book.

Since I now love all things NYC, this is perfect.
